The term 'constitutional medicine' is one that causes confusion and consternation among homeopaths and patients alike. My understanding of the term is that, in some people, it is possible to identify a remedy whose picture matches the overall metabolism of the particular patient exactly. For that person, their reactions to stress, the way they behave when ill, the type of illnessess they get, all fit neatly into one remedy picture: children, and people who live in simpler, less technological and 'intellectual' cultures, may often present like this.
Trauma creates a held 'charge' in our bodies; so that when we are reminded of that trauma, when the memory is triggered, it's as if the trauma is happening right now. Along with the thought or memory, comes the adrenalin, pumping through, and with that, the emotional 'charge' of the original event. We want to either fight, or flee, or freeze. We are re-experiencing the original trauma. What will release this emotional charge, so that we can simply have the memory, without the distress? I want to offer some answers to this question, with the following story.

One Saturday afternoon several months ago, my husband called to say: "I've had an accident." Oh. This time a moose, 800 pounds of moose. The moose had run halfway across the road at the Junction, and then froze when he saw Dan's car coming. The moose collided with the top and windshield area of the car. Dan emerged from the car, shaking quite badly, but relatively unscathed physically (he was quite emotionally distressed, and that's another story).
Recently, one of our Hospice volunteers received a terminal diagnosis. Several of us gathered one evening to create a Healing Circle, to offer up our collective healing energy for her and her family. In doing this, we recognize (then and now) that 'healing' means 'wholeness', not necessarily 'cure.' With the news of a terminal diagnosis comes shock, and feeling shattered, broken apart.
Homeopathy Awareness Month happens every April, as a way for homeopaths to celebrate Samuel Hahnemann's (homeopathy's founder) birthday, and to bring homeopathy out into the public eye by making a little (or a lot of) noise about this beautiful system of healing. This year the theme is Homeopathy for Men. Men have their own particular concerns and ailments, and homeopathy has remedies specific to their needs, in both acute and chronic conditions.
As part of this celebration, I'm inviting you to my "Meet and Greet" table in front of the Kootenay Co-op, 295 Baker St., on Thursday April 24, from 10-2 pm. Take home some handouts, some homeopathy info, and if you fill out a ticket, a chance to win Cumming's and Ullman's book: Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines (a classic!). Come have a chat! I'd love to meet you! Bring your questions! If you're reading this blog you probably know something about homeopathy!
As well, during April and May, you'll receive a 20% discount for booking an initial consult with me.
Hope to see you there!
Love,
Margo
